Caleb Farley
College: Virginia Tech
Position: CB
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 207 lbs
Strengths:
Caleb Farley is the top cornerback in this years draft class in my opinion. He displays elite athletic ability on the field, showing solid catchup speed and talented ball skills. Farley has very good technique as well, knowing when to be aggressive and utilize some of his physicality on the receiver. Farley has fluid hips that benefit him a lot when playing smaller and faster receivers. Normally, this wouldn’t be a strength, but considering how good Farley is already, it is important to mention that the 2019 season was only his 2nd year playing CB, and before that he had played WR for Virginia Tech. Farley had a superb 2019 season, especially considering it was his 2nd year playing the position, leaving him with tons of room to improve
Weaknesses:
The main concern with Farley, and perhaps the only major concern, is with Farley’s troubling injury history. Farley has missed several games due to injuries, including a torn ACL and back spasms. Furthermore, while Farley does have fluid hips, there are some occasions where the receiver is making a double move and Farley’s hips may lock in place. However, this is something that can easily be fixed upon good coaching. I would also like to see Farley improve more in the running game. He sometimes may miss tackles and take bad angles during run support.
Overall Assessment: I truly believe Farley is one of the best cornerbacks in this years draft. Caleb Farley is one of the first cornerbacks I have seen coming out of college, who can be put on island by himself and still cover receivers, since Jalen Ramsey. I think this can definitely translate to the next level in the NFL, as long as he manages to stay on the field and develops and adjusts some of his technique. Farley would thrive in either a Press Man coverage team or an Off Man coverage team, as he played some of both during his two years playing CB at Virginia Tech. Most cornerbacks struggle in their first year, but I think Farley has All Pro potential at the next level if he is utilized properly in the right defensive scheme.
