Elijah Moore really bust onto the scene in 2019, his sophomore year at Ole Miss before this season he was in the country in receiving yards. Elijah Moore is another wide receiver on the smaller side but he has plenty of speed and agility to make up for it. He may only be a slot receiver in the NFL but he’ll surely be a good and reliable receiver.
Strengths:
- Very Explosive
Elijah Moore is a receiver who is very explosive and can get up to top speed extremely quick. On short routes he shoots by defenders and on longer developing routes he accelerates to his top speed running in a straight line very quickly.
- Good Route Runner
I think that Elijah Moore is a great route running and his route running ability is very nuanced and effective. His head and body fakes are very good and his footwork is able to manipulate defenders very well.
- Good After the Catch
Once he gets the ball in his hands Elijah Moore is very dangerous and he has elite field vision. When combined with his long speed and shiftiness it makes Moore someone that offenses can rely to get yardage when given shorter targets.
- Nice Straight Line Speed
The straight line speed that Moore has is very good and his 40 time doesn’t really do that justice because his play speed is definitely very good and allows him to separate from defenders over the top.
- Great Ball Tracking
Elijah Moore has exceptional ball tracking ability and it allows him to make consistent catches at times even if he is not the biggest guy. It puts him in position to make plays and is very useful.
- Reliable Hands
Moore is a guy who can consistently catch away from his body often with just a singular hand making him a vacuum for errant QBs. He also does a great job holding onto the ball even when he’s making a catch in traffic and gets hit.
- High IQ Player
Elijah Moore is a high IQ football player with a great understanding for the position. He understands leverage and positioning well and he does great at finding the holes in zone coverage and getting into these holes on time.
Weaknesses:
- Small Size
At just 5’9 181 the size is definitely a pretty big concern for Elijah Moore. It hasn’t affected him injury wise but it prevents him from using his contested catch ability as well as he could. It also limits him to the slot and it hinders his blocking ability.
- Struggled vs Press
Elijah Moore didn’t face press very often and when he did he was completely shut down. His release isn’t quick and press takes advantage of that and he’s also not very physical which allows DBs to control him and prevent him from doing anything, effectively taking him out of the play.
Player Comp: It was pretty tough to find a pro comparison for Elijah Moore and this comparison by no means perfect but it is Golden Tate. Both guys are great route runners, with good agility and explosiveness. They both have great tracking ability and sure hands with good enough long speed to separate and get a lot of yards after the catch. Their weaknesses in size and against press are also very similar and I think that they are going to be used in similar roles with them being motioned quite a bit and also primarily being slot
Final Thoughts: Elijah Moore is a receiver that I like a bit more than others with me having a super early second round grade on him rather than a later second round or early third round grade like other people do. He has a bevy of strengths and all of them work extremely well together. From the speed profile to the route running to the hands and the IQ he has so many things that he’s good at and very few weaknesses. Any team that needs a good slot guy should be looking after Elijah Moore. I think the Giants would be a good team fit with Moore replacing Tate, his player comparison if they don’t go receiver first round.
