Rondale Moore is a receiver who busted onto the scene in his freshman year in 2018 which isn’t seen often at the receiver position in college. Behind the production however, was a lot of empty production with easy slants and screens to get him easy yardage. He still has the traits to be a great NFL receiver

Strengths:

  • Amazing Run After Catch Ability

Rondale Moore is a guy who’s run after catch ability was so great that the Purdue offense just had to get him the ball in any way that he could because of this ability. He has great vision running after the catch and he has great shiftiness and contact balance to go with it.

  • Great Lateral Movement Skills

Rondale Moore has great agility and is incredibly shifty. He uses this to help him gain a lot of yards after the catch as well as to use quick and sudden movement to gain separation.

  • Nice Contact Balance After the Catch

Once Rondale Moore gets the ball in hands sometimes he can look RB-esque with the contact balance that he possesses. He bounces off defenders and is surprisingly strong for his frame.

  • Great Route Runner

Rondale Moore has a great release and route running ability that allows him to beat press easily. His footwork is pristine and his movements are sudden allowing him to get open.

Weaknesses:

  • Small Frame

Rondale Moore is just 5’9 181 and even if he’s pretty strong that frame completely takes away from his ability to make contested catches. In addition that weight has caused injury concerns in his lower half.

  • College to NFL Jump

At Purdue Rondale Moore was being fed an absurd amount of screen and jet sweeps and short easy plays that won’t be quite as frequent at the NFL level. In addition to that he was almost never asked to run routes past 10 yards which will be a transition he has to make.

  • Doesn’t Do Well at All Downfield

This coincides with that massive college to NFL jump that Moore has to make. He was rarely ever asked to run routes down the field and when he was he didn’t look too good doing it. Even if he can thrive on the short stuff those plays are just worth less and it undermines his value by quite a bit.

Player Comp: I think that at his ceiling Rondale Moore would be a Jarvis Landry type of player both in play style and in talent level, which isn’t that high of a ceiling if we’re being honest here. Both guys are pretty explosive and quick but don’t have the greatest straight line play speed in the world. They both play bigger than they are and they’re great route runners, and are both guys who will succeed after the catch rather than doing big things before although Landry does have a significantly better contested catch ability than Rondale Moore does.

Final Thoughts: Rondale Moore is just a receiver that I don’t like a lot. Many have him in the late round one to early round two area meanwhile I have him as a prospect who should be drafted in the middle of round three. I have many concerns with some of the biggest being his small frame that we’ve seen has already led to injuries, his somewhat low straight line speed despite his 40 time, and his inability to get open down the field. Overall I think that his skill set of getting a bunch of yards after the catch when schemed open but not really being a threat at all on deeper routes isn’t valuable and is something that isn’t too hard to find and replace. On the right team however, he could be dangerous and if he goes to a team like the Jets I could see using a second round pick being justified because of the scheme fit in a Shanahan style offense where he could be a YAC machine.
