Dillon Radunz played left tackle for North Dakota State University. Playing at an FCS school he did play at a lower level of competition but at the Senior Bowl he showed that he could hang with players from some of the top schools in the nation. He’s strong, aggressive, and very technically sound which is why he’ll be a good player in the NFL.

Strengths:

  • Great at the Point of Attack

Dillon Radunz is really good at the point of attack in the run game. He loves to come in hot and aggressive and try to maul his opponents which is why he gets so much push in the run game.

  • Good Footwork

Radunz, even at his level of competition, was a model of consistency. His kick step was the same motion every time and he always got enough depth, but not too much too the point where he over sets and it’s easy to beat him inside.

  • Great Hand Usage

Radunz does a pretty good job with his hands overall. He times his punches extremely well and his hands pack some punch. The hand placement isn’t always consistent but for the most part it’s also pretty good.

  • Plays With Good Leverage

Dillion Radunz gets really good knee bend and is able to sink and anchor down extremely well. When he notices that opposing defenders are playing with their pad levels too high, Radunz does a great job using his leverage advantage to uproot them.

Weaknesses:

  • Body Control Issues

Sometimes Radunz can get too aggressive and eager to win at the point of attack that he comes off balance. This makes it easier to use counters on him because of how aggressive and off balance he is.

  • Average Athleticism

Radunz isn’t quite the biggest offensive tackle to ever play the position at just around 304 lbs, and he doesn’t make up for it with elite foot quickness either. When you combine that with pretty short arms it makes him somewhat of an athletic liability.

Player Comp: The player comparison that I have for Radunz is also pretty new to the league and we haven’t quite seen the quality of player he will be in the NFL but in terms of play style and athletic ability I think Radunz is pretty close to Jonah Williams. Both guys are on the lighter side and although Williams is a bit quicker both guys don’t have elite speed or quickness. They do however, make up for it with great technique in terms of both hand placement and footwork. They’re both aggressive guys who finish plays and sometimes that gets them off balance, but it allows them to be scary in the run game. It’s not a perfect comp but it’s the closest I can think of.

Final Thoughts: Dillon Radunz is sneaking into the late first round conversation for a lot of people and I think at this point the consensus is that Radunz is a first round pick and I’m not quite that high on Radunz. I think he’s a very good player but he did play FCS competition and still has balance issues and isn’t the most athletic guy which will be exploited at the next level. I like that he has versatility but I’d hold off until the early second to grab him. In terms of scheme fit I think Radunz can pretty much play anywhere so I’ll say the Panthers are a good fit for him because they won’t need him to be great immediately but once he gets acclimated to NFL pass rushers he has great technique and should be great right when the Panthers are contenders.
