Tyson Campbell

Pos: CB

School: Georgia

Ht: 6’2″

Wt: 182 lbs

Strengths:

  • Extremely quick cornerback; good long speed and can keep up with most receivers
  • Physical corner who likes to get his hands involved in plays
  • Fluid hips, able to transition well off of cuts and in/out breaking routes
  • Good play recognition; tracks the eyes of the QB well
  • Good open field tackler, can wrap up players on his own with relatively solid technique
  • Gets involved with the run game
  • Long corner with 32+ inch arms

Weaknesses:

  • Somewhat frail body could hurt him the NFL
  • Gets tripped up on out breaking routes as he may overcommit and lose his footing
  • He could look to improve his tackling technique, as sometimes he becomes an arm tackler

Overall Assessment:

I think Tyson Campbell is the best corner out of the stacked cornerback room at Georgia. He shows the most promise out of all the corners, with his elite deep speed, and physicality. Campbell is a long armed corner who is able to use his body well to defend receivers. His times his movements properly, and opens his hips at the right time, so that he doesn’t get burned by the double moves of receivers. Campbell is a solid open screen tackler who can adapt to the screen on man schemes. He can recover well and maintain proper positioning to wrap up the ball carrier. For a thinner corner, his involvement in the run game is admirable and I would like to see him do more of that at the next level. Campbell is a great player however he may overcommit resulting in him falling or tripping, where he loses his footing. His tackling in the run game could use work as well as he sometimes becomes an arm tackler who loses the technique he flashes. Campbell worked well in press coverage when he was left on his own. His play recognition makes him a quality potential zone corner, however I truly think he can play off man coverage well. Nonetheless, he projects best as a zone corner at the next level.
