Kyren Williams, Notre Dame RB

Games Watched: Alabama, Clemson, Pittsburgh

Pros:

  • Phenomenal change of direction ability
  • Great start stop ability
  • Makes extremely sharp cuts
  • Multi cut runner
  • Great vision to make the right read every time
  • Manipulates defenders with deliberate movements
  • Amazing patience to wait for holes to open up
  • Decent agility
  • Accelerates fast to hit closing holes
  • Contorts his body to hit small holes
  • Great speed to get to the outside as well as to finish runs
  • Runs routes with the intent of getting open
  • High effort blocker
  • Aware of his surroundings when blocking

Cons:

  • Not an incredibly physical back
  • Contact balance isn’t great
  • Doesn’t always push forward for extra yards
  • Makes bad situations worse when met behind the LOS
  • Blocking ability limited by his size

Summary: Kyren Williams is a smaller back who is very quick but more importantly has great change of direction skills. He can switch directions and start and stop extremely well and his vision and patience is key to his success as well. He looks to be a great receiving threat as well. His smaller size can limit what he’s able to do at times however.

Hopeful Improvements: Kyren Williams is already pretty smart and technically sound back. Ideally he can add some strength to improve as a blocker as well as to improve his contact balance and ability to push for yards after contact.

Grade: Kyren Williams is an early Round 3 player for me as of now. He’s incredibly smart and also very quick. If he bulks up a bit and keeps the same quickness he could move up even higher into the certain Round 2 range.
