BJ Ojulari
LSU EDGE
Games Watched: Mississippi State, Alabama, Georgia
Summary: BJ Ojulari’s skill set would be best utilized as a 3-4 OLB. Ojulari is a very intelligent pass rusher, who clearly has a plan every play and sets up linemen multiple plays in advance. He has great quickness to beat linemen to the edge, and then he flattens the angle and finishes with his great closing burst. In the run game he does a good job reading and reacting, and he is able to drop back and cover too. While he reads the run well, he often has trouble disengaging from blocks, and his general lack of strength also shows up when trying to bullrush offensive lineman. Ojulari also is missing a solid inside counter move that he could stand to benefit from.
Pros
- Pass rushes intelligently, setting up offensive linemen and beating them with his variety of counters
- Frequently able to beat linemen around the edge and get to the quarterback with his rip move
- Has the flexibility and bend to consistently get around the edge
- Great closing burst
- Sees run plays develop well
- Able to drop back and be a plus defender in coverage
Cons
- Struggles to disengage fast enough against the run
- Doesn’t have a strong enough bullrush to drive offensive linemen backward
- Could take his game to the next level with a better inside counter
Grade: BJ Ojulari gets a mid 1st round grade. He already does a lot of things well as a pass rusher, and has room to become even better.
