Broderick Jones
Georgia OT
Games Watched: LSU, Ohio State, TCU
Summary: Broderick Jones is a left tackle who shines in the run game. He does a great job climbing to the second level, identifying tacklers to block, and finishing them with his tenacity. Against the pass he has traits that star offensive tackles possess, like the agility to mirror pass rushers, and strong hands to control them, although he does have some weaknesses. He often doesn’t set his feet quick enough, and can give pass rushers too much room to counter inside. His punches are late leaving his chest vulnerable, and he lunges too often throwing him off balance.
Pros
- Good enough lateral agility to stay with edge rushers
- Explodes off the line to quickly climb to the second level in the run game
- Great power in the run game easily moving defenders
- Punches have good pop and placement, and often land because of his long arms
- Good at identifying defenders and disrupting multiple defenders on run plays
Cons
- Needs to set his feet quicker in pass protection to handle speed to power rushes in time
- Sometimes overcompensates for outside rushes leaving himself susceptible to inside counters
- Leaves his chest open too frequently, throwing his punches late
- Has balance issues when he gets his weight too far out in front of him
Grade: Broderick Jones gets a mid 1st round grade. He is a monster in the run game and has potential as a pass blocker, but needs technical fixes.
