Bryce Young
Alabama QB
Games Watched: Texas, Tennessee, LSU
Summary: Bryce Young may be undersized but his lack of height should not affect him much on the playing field. Young reads the field incredibly well, progressing through his reads and making smart decisions. He has incredible accuracy and anticipation, making the receiver’s job easy. He has a great feel for pressure in the pocket and is dangerous in the scramble drill with the ability to juke defenders and make some crazy passes. Other than the fact that his size could pose injury risks, the only things Bryce lacks are top tier accuracy on high arcing deep throws and elite power while throwing off balance.
Pros
- Quickly progresses through the full field of reads
- Accurate thrower of the football who gets the ball where he needs it to go
- Gets good zip on his throws
- Anticipates his receivers routes and leads them into open space
- Great feel for where to slide away from pressure
- Has the poise to deliver the ball under duress when needed
- Great improviser once the play goes awry, making pass rushers miss and finding receivers while under heavy pressure
Cons
- Smaller size can pose durability concerns
- Accuracy on deep throws where he has to arc the ball is not bad but could stand to improve
- Does not get as much power on his throws when releasing from odd angles or off balance
Grade: Bryce Young gets an early 1st round grade and is the top player on my board. The smarts, accuracy, and improvisational skills easily overshadow any doubts casted by his height.
