Christoper Smith

Georgia SAF

Games Watched: Oregon, Florida, Ohio State

Summary: Christopher Smith can be a good free safety in the NFL. While he may lack size or athleticism, he makes up for with football IQ. He has tremendous route anticipation skills, and reads the QB’s eyes very well. He also has great ball skills leading to him causing a lot of turnovers. He does a good job attacking the ball carrier and making tackles in space. His size does, however, lead to some missed tackles against bigger players, and his lack of athleticism means he isn’t the rangiest safety.

Pros

  • Moves fluidly
  • Triggers downhill to create havoc behind the LOS
  • Phenomenal football IQ leads to him reading plays early
  • Reads ball carriers to tackle well in space
  • Great ball skills

Cons

  • Doesn’t have great burst and explosion
  • Doesn’t have the range to consistently be left alone in 1 high
  • Has trouble tackling against bigger ball carriers

Grade: Christopher Smith gets a mid 3rd round grade. He’s a smart player who doesn’t have any glaring weaknesses which makes for a solid safety prospect.
