CJ Stroud
Ohio State QB
Games Watched: Maryland, Michigan, Georgia
Summary: CJ Stroud’s calling card as a quarterback is his incredible accuracy to all areas of the field. He throws the ball with good velocity and touch when needed, and can deliver the ball to all areas of the field. He makes smart decisions and gets through his progressions, and has decent pocket presence and poise. One bad habit he has is staring his receivers down for a bit too long but that’s fixable. Where he really gets in trouble is when he’s pressured. He can struggle to feel pressure from his blindside, and when he does he’s not the greatest improviser. He can sometimes lose his accuracy when throwing under heavy duress.
Pros
- Decent arm strength to get good velocity on his throws and comfortably make throws outside the numbers
- Quickly progresses through all of his reads
- Amazing accuracy and touch on passes to all areas of the field
- Makes smart decisions with the football taking risks when he needs to while still taking the easy throws
- Comfortable sliding away from pressure and delivering passes
Cons
- Can have trouble feeling pressure from his blindside
- Sometimes stares down his receivers for just a tick too long
- Not very creative as a scrambler and runner despite having decent mobility
- Shows potential of making great throws off balance and under heavy pressure but needs to do that more consistently
Grade: CJ Stroud gets an early 1st round grade. He’s an accurate thrower of the ball who has shown potential of putting it all together but will need to more consistently use his legs.
