Daiyan Henley

Washington State LB

Games Watched: Oregon, USC

Summary: Daiyan Henley is relatively new to the linebacker position but there is potential for him to grow. He is incredibly quick with an explosive first step allowing him to flow to the ball well. He uses his long arms well to prevent offensive linemen from engaging. He also has good ball skills in coverage and has the traits to be a solid blitzer. His natural feel for the position however, is lacking as he lacks eye discipline and can be too aggressive or passive at the wrong times. His zone coverage abilities will need to improve, and his small size will likely be an issue throughout his career.

Pros

  • Explosive first step and great closing speed and acceleration
  • Does a decent job sorting through traffic to get to the ball carrier
  • Good at using his length to prevent offensive linemen from cleanly engaging
  • Has developed ball skills from his CB/WR background
  • Has upside as a blitzer

Cons

  • Can be too passive against zone runs waiting for the play to come to him rather than attacking the ball
  • Lacks eye discipline often biting on play fakes and keeping his eyes in the backfield for too long
  • Not the greatest natural feel for zone coverage
  • Doesn’t have the strength to consistently shed blocks if offensive linemen get their hands on him

Grade: Daiyan Henley gets a mid 3rd round grade. Despite size and inexperience concerns, Henley has traits that can allow teams to develop him into a solid linebacker.
