Darnell Wright

Tennessee OT

Games Watched: Alabama, Georgia, Clemson

Summary: Darnell Wright played right tackle at Tennessee and will probably do the same in the NFL. Wright has a very strong anchor and his hands also have a lot of pop. In pass pro he plays with decent pad level and great footwork, but is often slow to identify pass rushers on blitzes and stunts. In the run game he has limited range as he struggles to find defenders on the second level, but when he does connect he does a great job finishing defenders. He also has physical limitations with his short arms allowing longer defenders to take advantage of him.

Pros

  • Incredibly strong anchor in pass protection preventing any effectiveness from bull rushes
  • Punches are very powerful and disrupt pass rushers
  • Does a good job maintaining his pad level for the most part
  • Good footwork and explosiveness into his pass sets
  • Finishes his run blocks with power and tenacity

Cons

  • Short arms can be exploited by defenders
  • Not amazing at climbing to the second level and finding defenders downfield
  • Can be slow to recognize and adjusts from stunts and blitzes from the defense

Grade: Darnell Wright gets a mid 1st round grade. He has the ideal size and technique for the position but has physical limitations capping his ceiling.
