Devon Achane

Texas A&M RB

Games Watched: Arkansas, Alabama, Florida

Summary: Devon Achane is a smaller running back but he more than makes up for it with his blazing speed. He accelerates quickly and is incredibly shifty in space making it tough to bring him down in the open field. He has good vision and frequently finds cutback lanes, and as a receiver he flashes potential although there is room to improve. On the downside his small size makes it easier to tackle him, as he doesn’t have the best contact balance. He’s not a tremendous blocker, and he also is a bit impatient at times.

Pros

  • Has the speed to simply outrun defenders
  • Accelerates quickly into the hole
  • Very agile in space
  • Has good stop/start ability and good change of direction skills
  • Has good vision to find open cutback lanes
  • Has potential as a receiver

Cons

  • On the smaller end for a running back
  • Easily tripped up by the legs
  • Lacks the patience to wait for bigger holes to open up
  • Doesn’t make enough of an effort as a blocker

Grade: Devon Achane gets a mid 3rd round grade. He has the speed that every NFL team covets and if he develops as a receiver he’ll be a great change of pace back.
