Dewayne McBride
UAB RB
Games Watched: Georgia Southern, Western Kentucky, LSU
Summary: Dewayne McBride is a well built running back who runs with good pad level. He has good strength which gives the ability to shake off weaker tackle attempts. He is very patient and waits for his blockers to engage, and he also presses the line to move defenders out of cutback lanes. The problem is, he often sees these cutback lanes too late, and sometimes he’s overly patient. He doesn’t have the agility to beat defenders behind the LOS, and he doesn’t have great long speed. He also fumbled 11 times in 2 years, which raises ball security concerns too.
Pros
- Good burst off the snap
- Runs powerfully with good pad level
- Great contact balance
- Very patient back who waits for holes to open up
- Manipulates defenders by pressing the line
Cons
- Doesn’t have the greatest change of direction ability
- Lacks the long speed to finish big runs
- Vision is below average as he often fails to see cutback lanes in time
- Not a contributor in the passing game
- 11 fumbles in 2 years suggest lack of ball security
Grade: Dewayne McBride gets a 5th round grade. He has a good build and some quality traits but also has limitations that prevent him from being anything more than a committee back.
