DJ Turner

Michigan CB

Games Watched:

Summary: DJ Turner has the movement ability of a man corner, but instinctively he plays better as a zone corner which might actually limit him. He is a smaller corner but he makes up for using his speed and intelligence.. He can run step for step with most receivers because of his elite movement skills and oily hips. He anticipates route combinations very well, and does a good job reading both the quarterback and the receiver during routes. His main concerns are size related, as his lack of size and length makes it tough to slow down receivers and win at the catch point. He also struggles with making clean tackles, and can be over reliant on his speed which leads to some issues.

Pros

  • Great combination of acceleration, speed, and agility to run step for step with receivers
  • Turns his hips quickly and runs in phase
  • Decent route anticipation skills
  • Disciplined eyes that are able to stay focused on the quarterback as well as track the receiver

Cons

  • Doesn’t have the strength in his punches to throw receivers off with hand fighting
  • Due to his size and length he can be boxed out by bigger receivers
  • Can have trouble making tackles at his size
  • Relies on his closing speed too much to the point where he’s often late to break on balls thrown underneath

Grade: DJ Turner gets a mid 3rd round grade. He’s a good athlete but he’s on the smaller end and has aspects of his game he has to clean up to hang with NFL receivers.
