Dorian Thompson-Robinson
UCLA QB
Games Watched: Washington, Oregon, USC
Summary: Dorian Thompson-Robinson is a dual threat quarterback with a massive ceiling. He gets through all of his progressions and is fantastic in rhythm where he makes quick decisions and accurate passes. His best ability is creating when he’s scrambling because of his ability to both throw on the move and rush effectively. A big issue for DTR is his long windup, and occasional mental lapses where he fails to see lurking defenders. He also needs to stay more poised in the pocket and eventually learn to add better touch on his passes.
Pros
- Does a good job efficiently getting through all his progressions
- Above average arm strength
- Great rhythm passer who makes quick decisions and is accurate in the short and intermediate areas of the field
- Shown potential as a great anticipatory thrower
- Possesses the ability to make accurate throws while on the run
- Has the speed and creativity to beat defenders as a scrambler and threaten with his legs every play
Cons
- Very long throwing motion that he will need to make more compact
- Sometimes has lapses in judgment where he throws the ball into multiple defenders, often because he fails to read the lurking defender
- Throws off his backfoot when pressured instead of staying in there and throwing
- Adding better touch on his passes is an area for improvement
Grade: Dorian Thompson-Robinson gets a late 2nd round grade. He has great tools to work with and in the right situation he can develop into a quality starter.
