Jaquelin Roy
LSU IDL
Games Watched: Mississippi State, Alabama, Georgia
Summary: Jaquelin Roy has the versatility to play anywhere from 0-T to 3-T. He has a great first step which he uses to gain depth into the backfield. He plays low to the ground allowing him to win leverage battles at the LOS, and he has strong hands that are well placed and timed. He lacks the skillset required to create pressure as a pass rusher, but he is still able to be disruptive by getting his hands in passing lanes. In the run game, he struggles to hold multiple blockers at a time, and has trouble deconstructing blocks in a timely manner.
Pros
- Good first step to penetrate the backfield
- Plays with good leverage and pad level at the line of scrimmage
- Hands are active and powerful
- Disrupts plays by blocking passing lanes when he can’t get to the quarterback
Cons
- Anchor is average at best, can’t consistently hold double teams
- Takes too long to shed blocks
- Not very refined pass rushing skillset
Grade: Jaquelin Roy gets a 4th round grade. He’s a solid penetrator but doesn’t offer much as a pass rusher or even as a typical run defender.
