Joey Porter Jr
Penn State CB
Games Watched: Purdue, Michigan, Ohio State
Summary: Joey Porter Jr. played a lot of man coverage in college but he might be better suited for a zone heavy team in the NFL. He has ideal cornerback size at 6’2 with 34 inch arms. He uses his length well to swat passes and get his hands on receivers, and he also has phenomenal instincts that allow him to snuff out plays early. He does however, grab way too often, sometimes when it’s not even necessary. He doesn’t change direction incredibly well and he’s not technically refined yet.
Pros
- Great size and length for a cornerback
- Uses his long arms to swat away passes
- Good hip flexibility, turns and runs well
- Phenomenal instincts, especially in zone coverage
- Able to reroute receivers with his strong hands
Cons
- Grabs receivers too often
- Changes of direction skills aren’t great
- Needs work technically, footwork/hand placement could both use improvement
- Easily blocked by smaller players
Grade: Joey Porter Jr gets a late first round grade. He could struggle immediately as a starter, but given time to develop Porter has the tools to become a great cornerback.
