Jonathan Mingo
Ole Miss WR
Games Watched: Baylor (2021), LSU, Alabama
Summary: Jonathan Mingo is a bigger receiver who can move like a smaller receiver. He uses his size to box out corners and get tough yards after the catch, and he uses his speed to create separation early during routes. He is developed as a route runner with a good release package and mid route technique. While he is fast he is not agile, preventing him from quickly making 90 degree turns and creating yards before contact after the catch. He also lacks the burner speed to truly distance himself from defenders after getting good separation early in the route.
Pros
- Has good size and strength making him tough to tackle and stifle with physicality
- Maintains his top speed throughout his route
- Can stop his momentum quickly on hitch and comeback routes
- Technically sound release package that allows him to gain a step on defenders from the start of the route
- Uses head feints to create separation from defenders
Cons
- Often slow when making sharp cuts or attempting to change direction quickly
- Not explosive after the catch, giving defenders time to close on him after he receives the ball
- Doesn’t have the second gear to create big separation downfield
Grade: Jonathan Mingo gets a mid 2nd round grade. He has a good size/speed combo and with some more technical development he can be a top tier WR2.
