Julius Brents
Kansas State CB
Games Watched: Texas Tech, TCU (CCG), Alabama
Summary: Julius Brents is a corner who will excel on a zone heavy team. At nearly 6’3 with 34 inch arms, he has the size to constantly disrupt plays. He does a good job using his length, getting his hands on receivers early, and making it tough for receivers at the catch point. His general feel for zone coverage is very good, and he helps in the run game too. He’s more of a liability in man coverage, where teams can exploit his below average long speed, hip flexibility, and change of direction ability. Even in zone coverage, he can sometimes get over aggressive and bite on play fakes.
Pros
- Phenomenal size and length
- Makes contact and disrupts the routes of receivers early
- Length was well utilized when challenging receivers at the catch point
- Great awareness and instincts in zone coverage
- Eager to help and tackle against the run
Cons
- Long speed and change of direction ability is subpar
- Hip flexibility is not the smoothest
- Over aggression can leave him abandoning his responsibilities
Grade: Julius Brents gets a mid 2nd round grade. His length and instincts ensure he’ll be a solid zone corner, but his movement skills cap his ceiling.
