Matthew Bergeron
Syracuse OT
Games Watched:
Summary: Matthew Bergeron has experience at both right and left tackle and could likely play either position in the NFL. Bergeron moves well, using his quickness to get into pass sets, adjust to pass rushers, and make plays down the field in the run game. He’s also a smart player who does a great job identifying stunts and blitzes. His main weakness is his lack of functional strength which shows up when trying to anchor against strong pass rushers, and his sometimes inability to finish defenders off in the run game. He will also need to improve upon his ineffective hand usage.
Pros
- Explosive out of his stance getting into pass sets
- Does a great job redirecting his weight and adjusting to pass rushers moves
- Has the movement skills and range to consistently meet defenders at the second level
- Plays with good awareness in pass protection
Cons
- Not the most effective finisher in the run game
- Punch placement is poor limiting how much his punches can effect edge rushers
- Could stand to improve the strength of his anchor
Grade: Matthew Bergeron gets a mid 2nd round grade. He has decent traits to develop into a good tackle or guard.
