Myles Murphy
Clemson EDGE
Games Watched: Iowa State (2021), Wake Forest, Syracuse, UNC
Summary: Myles Murphy is best suited to be a 4-3 DE. He does a great job using his athleticism and strong hands to bull rush effectively. He reads the field well and is effective in the run game where he uses a spin move to cover two gaps. He also has the versatility to drop back if need be. On the downside his hands could stand to be more active, as offensive linemen get into his chest too frequently. Most of the time he rushes without a plan, and his below average bend and ankle flexibility prevents him from turning the corner too well.
Pros
- Converts speed to power well
- Gets good power in his punches
- Sees the field well, reading and reacting to plays quickly as they develop
- Has a good hold and spin move that allows him to play two gaps in the run game effectively
- Not bad when asked to drop back and cover
Cons
- Let’s linemen get into his chest too easily
- Often looks like he’s rushing without a plan
- Average ankle flexibility prevents him from making certain plays
Grade: Myles Murphy gets a late first round grade. His athleticism and power is great but he has quite a few technical issues.
