Peter Skoronski

Northwestern IOL

Games Watched: Penn State, Wisconsin, Ohio State

Summary: Peter Skoronski played left tackle in college but arm length concerns might suggest a transition to guard. Skoronski has a strong anchor, good pad level, and strong punches/grip strength which are all important traits for guards. Skoronski also plays with great footwork, and effectively gets to the second level in the run, suggesting the transition to guard may not be too difficult. The main reason teams are even considering a transition is that his short arms allow longer players to easily make first contact. He is also late to land punches on outside rushes, and can have trouble moving people in the run game,

Pros

  • Times the snap well and is explosive out of his stance to get in good position off the jump
  • Has a strong anchor in pass protection
  • Plays with great pad level using his leverage to win at the point of attack
  • Clean and consistent footwork, especially when adjusting to stunts from the defense
  • Punches are well placed and have decent power
  • Does a great job climbing to the second level and blocking linebackers in the run game

Cons

  • Short arms allow longer defensive linemen to make first contact consistently
  • Can sometimes be late to throw his punch on outside rushes
  • Not quite a bulldozer in the run game

Grade: Skoronski gets a mid 1st round grade. He has the traits and versatility to be a solid tackle or an amazing guard.
