Tyjae Spears
Tulane RB
Games Watched: Houston, Memphis, Cincinnati
Summary: Tyjae Spears is a smaller but incredibly quick and shifty back from Tulane. He has very good play speed and accelerates into the hole quickly. He is tough to tackle in space because of his change of direction ability and elusiveness. He has decent vision and maintains his balance well. At times however, he’s all gas no brakes leading to early tackles. He doesn’t have the power to push for yards after contact which hurts him in short yardage situations. While he has potential as a receiver he needs to show more consistency to become a back who can play on 3rd downs.
Pros
- Plays with good speed and acceleration
- Dangerous change of direction skills especially in space
- Good vision to see cutback lanes and holes open up
- Natural balance and elusiveness
- Has potential as a receiver
Cons
- Small for a running back
- Lacks patience on many plays
- Doesn’t have the power to drive defenders backward
- Didn’t showcase consistency as a pass blocker or receiver
Grade: Tyjae Spears gets a late 3rd round grade. As a smaller back with good speed and quickness improving his receiving ability is all he needs to be a great 3rd down contributor.
