Tyree Wilson
Texas Tech EDGE
Games Watched: Houston, Texas, Kansas State
Summary: Tyree Wilson is an edge rusher who best fits as a 4-3 DE but has the athleticism to play 3-4 OLB. Wilson is incredibly athletic, and has a skillset that makes him a monster in the run game. He also has pass rushing upside given his natural strength and bend, and he has some nice pass rushing moves with good burst to finish plays off. Wilson, however, allows defenders to uproot him too frequently because of his high pad level. He also gives quarterbacks easy scramble lanes, and sometimes makes bad reads that lead to little involvement in those plays.
Pros
- Great size and length which he uses well
- Does a great job converting speed into power for his bullrush
- Shows flashes of decent swim and rip moves
- Good hip flexibility turning the corner
- Very good in run run defender because of his big tackling radius, and ability to set the edge, disengage quickly, and chase down runners in pursuit
Cons
- Plays with too high of a pad level
- Gets too deep into his rush giving quarterbacks easy scramble lanes
- Play recognition skills are hit or miss
Grade: Tyree Wilson gets an early 1st round grade. He is already a great run defender with the talent to become a phenomenal pass rusher too.
