Zach Charbonnet

UCLA RB

Games Watched: Washington, Utah, USC

Summary: Zach Charbonnet takes a while to get going but once he has a full head of steam he’s hard to bring down. He has a powerful build and picks up speed as he runs downhill. He has good contact balance and runs with enough power to drive the pile forward. He’s patient enough to find holes and has good hands and route running as a receiver. The knocks on Charbonnet are that he doesn’t accelerate quickly, and that he doesn’t change direction quickly (although sometimes he can be shifty in space). Another potential flaw is a narrow field view on some of his runs.

Pros

  • Picks up speed and power as he runs downhill
  • Good patience to wait for holes to open up
  • Phenomenal contact balance
  • Runs with good power and keeps his legs moving to push for extra yards
  • Showed quality traits as a receiver

Cons

  • Not the most agile player in the world
  • Does not accelerate very quickly
  • Sometimes runs into defenders before he finds the open lane

Grade: Zach Charbonnet gets a late 2nd round grade. He runs with good speed and power once he hits the hole, and has plus upside as a receiving back.
