One Liner: 3 down running back who wins with twitch, passing game reps, and explosiveness

Strengths: 

  • Very good twitch. Robinson plays with twitch behind the LOS and once he is in space. He keeps defenders guessing with his direction due to great shiftiness and fluid movements in the open field. His shiftiness leads to broken tackles and elusiveness on all 3 levels of the field. 
  • Very good pass catcher. Robinson is a great passing threat at the next level, with soft hands and route running that is quite impressive for a running back. He can line up in the slot and cause some damage from there as well, outside of his typical backfield receiving duties. 
  • Very good explosiveness. Robinson attacks gaps with  tenacious explosiveness and is like a battering ram once he decides where he will run. It is hard to bring Robinson down with the violence that he runs with, showing off great contact balance and ability to stay on his feet despite enduring contact. 
  • Very good power. Robinson is a powerful runner who is not afraid to lower his shoulder in an effort to fight for extra yardage. He is able to fight for extra yardage and has the size to keep plowing after first contact.
  • Good long speed. Robinson looks like he is moving a tick slow at times, but I think this is mostly him not moving at full speed at all times. He flashes great long speed, and there are snaps where we can see just how fast he can play in the pros. He is not a blazing sprinter, but he is above average in terms of speed and can get the job done here as well. 

Weaknesses:

  • Adequate pass protection. Robinson looks like he could be capable of being a formidable pass protector against blitzes with his frame, but I would like to see him do it with more desire and willingness at the next level.
  • Adequate decisiveness. There are instances where Robinson hesitates before attacking his gap or zone, something that definitely can be corrected in the pros.

Overall Assessment: Bijan Robinson is a superstar running back prospect who checks off almost all boxes that coaches have for running backs. He seemingly has no limitations on the field, and looks like a dynamic back that provides shiftiness, passing game prowess, and explosiveness to attack holes with timing and power. Robinson could look to shore up some pass protection issues, primarily be more willing to take on blockers, and also become a more decisive attacker consistently in zone situations. Robinson has the makings of a Pro Bowl running back at the next level, and has the capability to take an offense to the next level with his versatility.
