BJ Ojulari
Pos: EDGE
School: LSU
Ht. 6’2″
Wt. 248
Games Watched: Tennessee, Ole Miss, Florida
One Liner: Pass rushing specialist EDGE who wins with explosiveness, refined rush arsenal and fluid athleticism
Strengths:
- Elite rush arsenal. At this stage of his career, Ojulari has a commendable arsenal of rush moves that puts him ahead of his learning curve as a pro.
- Very good first step. Ojulari is explosive on passing downs and runs the arc really well
- Very good bend. Ojulari can bend, flatten, and corner around the arc fluidly and at a really high level that a lot of EDGE’s don’t demonstrate in this class
- Very good athleticism. Ojulari is able to reliably drop back in coverage and hold his ground against tight ends and running backs.
Weaknesses:
- Adequate strength and aggressiveness. At the POA against the pass, Ojulari needs to be more aggressive and active with his hands, otherwise he is neutralized easily. Against the run, Ojulari needs to bulk up and make his presence felt otherwise he is oftentimes a liability outside of being a read-react defender
- Adequate hand placement + usage. Ojulari isn’t really a handsy rusher, and really wins with his athletic ability and bend. I’d like to see more active hands from him moving forward.
- Marginal pursuit and motor. Ojulari seems really out of plays sometimes, with a lack of effort and motor when chasing plays upfield.
Overall Assessment: Right now, BJ Ojulari is a pass rushing specialist who can be relied upon to win with his bendy, athletic movements against offensive tackles. Ojulari shows good promise, but he should look to bulk up and be more aggressive at the POA.
Scheme Fit: Outside Linebacker in an even front who can drop back and be a pure rusher on late downs
Pick Projection: Late 1st – Early 2nd
Grade: 6.48
