One Liner: Powerful defensive lineman who wins with size, length and strength

Strengths:

  • Elite size. Martin possesses rare size for a 1t or 2i defensive tackle with levers for arms that he uses to his benefit.
  • Very good strength. Martin is a strong player who’s well built for a player his size. He generates good shock from his arms and hands and has decent lower body anchor to hold up against zone double teams.
  • Good get off. Martin snaps off the line and into the pads of the offensive lineman at the POA. He uses his momentum to drive lineman back and win at the line of scrimmage.

Weaknesses:

  • Marginal athleticism. Martin is not a good athlete at this point, and doesn’t maintain ideal short area quickness or twitch to work around lineman.
  • Marginal technique at the POA. Once engaged, Martin doesn’t have good technique, and can lose leverage with body positioning, costly missteps, and a lack of hand activity.
  • Adequate leverage. Martin sometimes squanders his get off by losing the leverage battle once engaged with offensive linemen. He will have to make a conscious effort to correct this at his 6’5 height.

Overall Assessment: Brodric Martin is an intriguing late round prospect who has the frame, size and length to be a potential run stopping, gap penetrating defensive lineman. He is limited with a lack of athletic ability, meaning he likely won’t be a two gapping defensive tackle unless he corrects his false steps at the next level. Martin could become a much more viable backup or rotational starter with correct coaching, but for right now he’s mainly a Day 3 flyer.

Scheme Fit: even front 2i that can play 1t nose on running situations.

Pick Projection: Day 3
