Bryce Young
Pos: QB
School: Alabama
Ht. 5’10″
Wt. 204
Games Watched: LSU, Kansas State, Tennessee
One Liner: Playmaking quarterback who wins with creativity, accuracy and mobility.
Strengths:
- Very good accuracy. Young is an accurate passer at all 3 levels and hits his receivers on point.
- Very good athletic ability. Young can make plays happen with his legs, whether it be throwing off balance on the run or fighting for extra yardage on the ground.
- Very good football IQ. Playing in an NFL scheme under Bill O’Brien, Young made NFL level reads and demonstrated understanding of route concepts and coverages at a high level.
- Very good playmaking. Young showed a consistent abiliity to create plays out of nothing in and out of the pocket.
Weaknesses:
- Poor frame. Obvious questions here about how Young can hold up at the next level. I doubt he played at 204 in college, but that was what he bulked up to for combine weigh-ins.
- Marginal velocity. Young doesn’t rip the ball the way other QB’s in this class do, which throws off his touch at times, especially on deep balls.
Overall Assessment: Bryce Young is a refined QB prospect who should bring immediate contributions to whichever team drafts him. Young does most things well as a thrower, and checks off most boxes as a reliable passer in a West Coast, RPO heavy scheme. Ignoring the obvious durability concerns and Young’s MOF vision being deterred due to height and frame, Young projects as a solid NFL starter who is poised for success. Young leaves something to be desired with how hard he throws the ball as there isn’t the best touch or velocity on his throws, but this is a small concern in the overall scheme of his game.
Scheme Fit: West Coast, RPO Heavy offense.
Pick Projection: Top 5
Grade: 7.01
