Darnell Washington
Pos: Tight End
School: Georgia
Ht. 6’7″
Wt. 264
Games Watched: Kentucky, Alabama, Ohio State
One Liner: Hulking player who wins with massive frame, excellent athletic ability, and strength.
Strengths:
- Elite Frame. Washington possesses a rare frame that he puts to use as an excellent run blocker.
- Very good run blocker. Washington was primarily used as a in line blocking tight end at Georgia, and did an excellent job, essentially cementing himself as an extra offensive lineman.
- Very good athletic ability. Washington put up a show at the combine, and moves extremely well in space for a player of his stature.
- Very good strength. Washington wins all over the field with his strength, whether it be blocking in gap schemes in 1v1’s or bodying his defending in the redzone.
Weaknesses:
- Marginal route running development. Washington isn’t at all a refined route runner at this stage of his career, and wasn’t even asked to do much of this at Georgia with Brock Bowers being the primary tight end
- Adequate run blocking technique. Washington wins his run blocking matchups with pure strength and some technique in his arms, but he needs to improve some footwork and placement in order to be consistently successful at the next level
Overall Assessment: Darnell Washington had a limited role at Georgia playing with Brock Bowers, but thrived as a run blocker and a Unicorn red zone threat. He projects as a potential hybrid option at the next level, displaying very good athleticism at the Combine, reflective of his potential as a receiver at the next level. Washington is far from a finished product, and has a lot to learn in terms of technique, but the sky is the limit for him with his frame and athletic abilities.
