One Liner: Athletic linebacker who wins with fluidity, zone coverage technique, and blitzing abilitiy

Strengths: 

  • Elite athleticism. Overshown is a former safety who can fly over the field. He has the fluidity of a defensive back, and has greased hips that allow him to be a formidable man coverage defender at the next level. Overshown attacks upfield against developing run plays and has short area quickness and closing burst to wrap up plays.
  • Very good zone defender. Overshown is a reliable zone defender who understands depth and spacing in his areas. He has the athletic ability to pounce after reading what is in front of him, and has the eye discipline to flip his hips and pursue passes behind him to make a play.
  • Very good blitzer. Overshown uses his knack and athleticism as a safety to fly upfield and blitz QB’s. He was often lined up on the edge as well, and was fluid enough to bend his hips and flatten while running the arc. While he won’t see many snaps here, Overshown is a nuanced blitzer who understands which gaps to attack and has the tenacity and speed to do so effectively. 

Weaknesses:

  • Adequate strength. Overshown has somewhat of a slender frame, and is still bulking up from his safety position from earlier in his career. He needs more functional strength to hold up against big bodies working in space, and will have to develop more arm power to be a viable threat to win after contact.
  • Adequate block shedding. Overshown isn’t a stack and shed linebacker at this stage in his career. He lacks the torque and upper body strength to really grip off of blockers, and is usually engulfed once contact is made with offensive lineman. Overshown can shed with athleticism and quicks, but will need to improve in this area to be a reliable run stopper at the next level.
  • Adequate read and react. Overshown’s instincts have been improving, and will continue to develop, but he doesn’t have excellent reaction time as of right now. He makes the right early reads and recognizes plays early in their development, but his reaction time is a bit slow and he will need to be more decisive in trusting what he sees as he develops into a WILL and potentially MIKE role at the next level.

Overall Assessment: Demarvion Overshown is a fluid, athletic linebacker who still has tons of room to grow and develop. As a former safety, he brings defensive back-esque coverage skills to the table, and moves around in space just like a DB. He has fluid hips and is a nuanced zone defender who makes the right reades in the passing game. His run stopping game is still a bit raw right now, and primarily functions off his athletic ability. Overshown projects as a versatile box safety/WILL LB as of right now but if he continues learning and refining his football IQ, while bulking up, he has the ability to be an athletic coverage linebacker at the next level.
