Devon Achane

Pos: RB

School: Texas A&M

Ht. 5’8″

Wt. 188

Games Watched: Miss. State, Arkansas, Miami

One Liner: Undersized running back that wins with speed, twitch, and explosiveness

Strengths:

  • Very good speed. Achane is a speedy back who is able to explode and accelerate extremely fast – the moment the ball touches his hands. He has the long speed to create big plays and evade some of the fastest defenders on the opposing team.
  • Very good shiftiness and twitch. Behind blocks, Achane shows nice twitch and elusiveness to keep defenders guessing and to evade contact. Achane uses his twitch to break tackles as well in order to fight for extra yardage.
  • Good explosiveness. Once Achane decides on his hole, he attacks with high level speed and the ability to change direction on a dime. He is explosive into his hole and will accelerate quickly to outrace defenders’ lurking arms.
  • Good pass protection. Achane is a willing pass protector and looks like he is adept with chop blocks on incoming blitzers. However, I question whether his willingness can outweigh his size, an issue that could prevent him from consistently pass blocking moving forward.

Weaknesses:

  • Poor size. At 5’8 188 lbs, Achane is in a tough spot in regards to his workload and how teams choose to use him. Although he has the explosiveness and twitch to be an every down starter, his frame will raise durability concerns and questions regarding how many carriers he can have per game.
  • Adequate zone runner. Achane shows some slight indecisiveness as a runner, and looks a bit hesitant at times. While his first read is usually solid and on point, he may hesitate before choosing which gap or crease to attack next, limiting his explosiveness on certain zone blocking runs.
