Jahmyr Gibbs

Pos: RB

School: Alabama

Ht. 5’9″

Wt. 199

Games Watched: Texas, Kansas State, LSU

One Liner: Shifty running back who wins with elusiveness, passing game prowess, and athleticism.

Strengths:

  • Elite passing game threat. Gibbs was an energizer for the Alabama offense, and was a great passing threat out of the backfield. His route running is really good for a running back and his cuts at the stem of his route indicate that he has the shiftiness and twitch to be a good separator as a receiver for an NFL offense.
  • Very good elusivenes. In space, Gibbs is a tough task to take down. He is a shifty running back with elite speed. He can change direction on a dime, and is a formidable threat to break free for a big play whenever he has the ball in his hands past the LOS. Gibbs is able to break tackles and avoid contact due to his twitch.
  • Very good athlete. As mentioned above, Gibbs is a speedster. He has great bursts to attack the hole, and has the agility and contact balance to break tackle’s consistently at the next level.

Weaknesses:

  • Adequate size. Gibbs is somewhat on the smaller side, being less than 200 pounds and shorter than 5’10. This may cause some trouble in him being a true workhorse running back at the next level, unless he can bulk up and add some more weight.
  • Adequate decisiveness. While Gibbs explodes and bursts into gaps once he chooses his gap in zone, there is some indecisiveness that causes Gibbs to be hesitant before he attacks the hole. Gibbs will have to be more confident in his eyes and trust what he sees in order to become a reliable zone runningback.
  • Marginal pass blocking. Gibbs doesn’t pick up blitzes well as of right now, and he will have to be more willing and energized as a pass blocker moving forward.

Overall Assessment:

Scheme Fit: Gadget RB who can win as a receiver. Needs some bulk and technical fixes before becoming a workhorse running back.

Pick Projection: Top 40

Grade: 6.42
