Jalin Hyatt

Pos: WR

School: Tennessee

Ht. 6’0″

Wt. 176

Games Watched: Alabama, Florida, Georgia

One Liner: Deep threat wide receiver who wins with long speed, athletic ability and YAC ability

Strengths:

  • Elite speed. In all facets, Hyatt is a pure speedster. He wins with quickness into his break which leads to Hyatt displaying his speed at the first level, as well as being a consistent deep ball threat at Tennessee to win with his legs at 2nd and 3rd levels.
  • Very good athletic ability. Hyatt is a really good athlete who not only displays top shelf long speed but also the sufficient change of direction and short area quickness needed to win at shorter, more intermediate levels of his route tree.
  • Very good YAC threat. Because of his athletic ability and speed, Hyatt was able to display promising YAC ability with the required shiftiness and twitch as a speedster to win with the ball in his hands.
  • Good feel for zone coverage. Hyatt displayed a solid knowledge and awareness of soft spots in zone coverage, and found ways to get open with football IQ and knowledge of coverage packages.

Weaknesses:

  • Marginal route running. Hyatt is not particularly refined or nuanced in the route running category, and lacks the required cuts and footwork to be a threat to separate with tools outside of pure speed and quicks.
  • Adequate hands. Hyatt has sufficient hands, and won’t have many drops but also won’t make many spectacular catches outside of his frame with extension. At this stage in his career he is not a 50/50 receiver.
  • Adequate frame. Hyatt is a thin receiver who lacks bulk for him to project as a natural X or Z receiver right now. He lacks the strength to be a successful receiver against press coverage at the next level.

Overall Assessment: Jalin Hyatt is a speedy wide receiver who will dominate off coverages as a threat to win deep against man coverages who can take the top off the defense. He will be able to outrace safety help as well, but this speed is the only prominent part of Hyatt’s game at this point in his career. With Tennessee’s scheme, Hyatt didn’t display a nuanced route running ability, lacking the footwork and fluidity to run the breaks at the stem of his routes needed at the NFL level. Hyatt has sufficient hands and athleticism to be somewhat of a short area threat. Hyatt will need to refine his game and work on the technical aspects before being a formidable receiving threat outside of a deep ball weapon.
