Jaren Hall
Pos: QB
School: BYU
Ht. 6’0″
Wt. 207
Games Watched: Notre Dame, Arkansas, Utah State
One Liner: Mobile quarterback who wins with athleticism, touch, and accuracy
Strengths:
- Very good athleticism. Hall has the athletic ability to escape and roll out of the pocket. He has quick feet, and can make acrobatic plays happen inside and outside of structure, whether it be making throws on the run or making defenders miss in open space.
- Very good touch. Hall plays with soft, smooth touch on deep balls, and understands the concept of throwing velocities in order to give his receivers the highest chance of making a play on the ball.
- Good accuracy. Hall plays with good, but not great accuracy. His lack of arm talent prevents him from zipping throws within the tight windows when needed, but his accuracy is usually on point and effective on all 3 levels of the field. He may have some misses when he fails to see safety’s or overhang defenders due to taller protection.
Weaknesses:
- Adequate size. Hall’s size will definitely hurt him at the next level, as it not only makes him a little fragile, but also prevents him from seeing safeties in Cover 2 or 3 attacking towards the sideline when making his throws.
- Marginal arm talent. Hall lacks the arm strength to truly zip passes in on time to make up for his poor height. He won’t be seen throwing the deep ball too often, and doesn’t have a cannon to make tight windows or deep play action passes.
- Adequate decision making. Hall’s decision making is interlinked with his lack of size and overestimation of his arm talent. While he didn’t make bad decisions too often, the poor reps on tape cause concern for next level projection, as these problems look like they can occur at the next level.
Overall Assessment: Jaren Hall is an athletic and accurate QB who could be a reliable backup in the NFL simply due to his ability to execute and hit the right targets without being overzealous. However, Hall may not see starting reps throughout his career due to a lack of size and below average arm talent hindering the ability to make tight window zips, or be a consistent deep ball thrower at the next level. Nonetheless, Hall provides some intriguing potential as a locker room leader, athlete and reliable thrower on the first and second levels in the pros.
Scheme Fit: Backup QB who can be reliable enough to handle starter reps for an offense that operates with non-timing based route concepts
Pick Projection: Early Round 4
Grade: 6.11
