One Liner: Reliable wide receiver who wins with route running chops, speed and athletic ability

Strengths:

  • Very good route runner. Addison has crafty footwork that allows him to make sharp cuts at the stem of his route. He has fluid motions in and out of the route with good play speed to keep corners guessing and generate separation pre-throw.
  • Very good athletic ability. Addison is a fluid mover in space and has the twitch needed to separate against defensive backs. He has solid long speed and is able to extend plays with shifty movements after the catch.
  • Good feel for zone coverage. Addison is a nuanced receiver who has a good feel for soft spots in zone. He can settle down in areas and will make a conscious effort to identify open areas on the field with a good knowledge of zone concepts and schemes.
  • Good speed. Addison has good speed that will be sufficient in the NFL. He’s fast enough to be a formidable threat downfield, but most of his speed originates with solid short area quicks and good burst rather than true track speed.

Weaknesses:

  • Poor strength. Addison has a rail thin frame at 173 pounds, and often played as a boundary receiver last year, where he was frequently thrown off his release by bigger, hulking corners. Addison will face more of the same and will need to add some mass if he wants to be able to beat press man coverage.
  • Adequate hands. Addison had soft, reliable hands for the most part but his frame caused some trouble in contested catch situations, where Addison would struggle to reel passes in tight coverages.

Overall Assessment: Jordan Addison is a nuanced receiver who brings good technique to the table. He is a reliable receiver who has plus route running and footwork and would be a safe slot player in any scheme he plays in. However he may be limited to the slot until he puts on some more weight and bulks up so that he can fully compete with bigger corners, who’s jams may throw Addison off his release and delay his route trees. Addison also struggles in contested catch situations, and while he is a solid athlete, he doens’t have top shelf speed or twitch that would allow him to overcome some size deficiencies.

Scheme Fit: Primary slot receiver until he bulks up

Pick Projection: Top 45

Grade: 6.40
