Kelee Ringo

Pos: CB

School: Georgia

Ht. 6’2″

Wt. 207

Games Watched: Tennessee, Ohio State

One Liner: Athletic cornerback who wins with aggressiveness, fluidity, and size

Strengths:

  • Very good aggressiveness and strength. Ringo is a solid press corner because of his handsy playing style and the power his punches pack. He is able to derail strong receivers(Cedric Tillman in the Tennessee game), with strong arms and well timed punches. Through the route progression in press, Ringo maintains good physicality and will compete at the catch point with his aggression and long arms.
  • Very good athletic ability. Ringo didn’t show elite combine testing on the field, but he is still a good athlete nonetheless. He shows no concerns flipping his hips, and can maintain good transition speed, and is a smooth mover in off man. He has the long speed to keep up with speedy receivers, and has the burst in zone to attack routes in front of him. While he is a really good athlete, his ability isn’t over the top. Ringo shows good but not great change of direction and plant + go ability out of off man looks
  • Very good size. Ringo moves really well for a player with his frame, and most corners in the draft at 200+ pounds cannot run nearly as fast as Ringo can. Some of that 4.36 speed is evident on the field, but I would look to see more of it in the pros.

Weaknesses:

  • Marginal route anticipation. Ringo doesn’t play with instincts as a press or off corner, and is often playing off a whim as to his route knowledge and IQ. This burns Ringo quite a bit in press as he flips his hips too soon and commits to a route which could end up leading to a double move. This occurs in zones too, where Ringo usually gets bailed out by his athletic ability and size.
  • Adequate hip timing. In press, Ringo has good footwork but his hips rotate far too soon and will end up in him getting beat on deep balls or sharp cutting double moves. Ringo will have to play with more discipline and develop his instincts as he goes on to the pros.
  • Adequate plant and go. In Cover 3, Ringo would often be required to plant and go as a boundary corner. He looked average being able to break on the ball, and considering his athletic traits he has me looking for more out of his breaks and plant and go to disrupt passing windows.

Overall Assessment: Kelee Ringo is an athletic corner who has great traits that make him a highly projectable boundary corner at the next level. He has great size, strength and solid length, giving him high upside as a scheme versatile corner. However, Ringo will have to improve on his football IQ and his route recognition before he becomes a ballhawk corner at the next level. The main concern with Ringo is that we saw many different versions of him throughout the season, leaving some questions about effort and motor. If the positive version of Ringo this season shows up in the NFL, there is a lot to be excited about.

Scheme Fit: Scheme versatile corner who would benefit from playing in zone at first but can be sufficient in man scheme early on.
