Tyler Scott
Pos: WR
School: Cincinnati
Ht. 5’10″
Wt. 177
Games Watched: Arkansas, UCF, Tulane
One Liner: Speedy, deep ball receiver who wins with athleticism, shiftiness, and versatility.
Strengths:
- Very good long speed. Scott is a fluid mover downfield, and maintains consistent speed throughout his movements as a ball carrier or when running his routes. His consistent long speed makes him projectable as a deep threat downfield in the pros.
- Very good twitch. Scott is a twitchy receiver who can shake off defenders when running his routes but also as a ball carrier. Scott uses his former running back experience to evade defenders and be elusive in the open field.
- Good versatility. Scott’s athleticism and twitch make him viable on a lot of spots on the offensive side of the ball, and as a special teams threat. I think teams could really capitalize on Scott’s RB experience by placing him in the backfield and giving him some carries, or through jet sweeps where can turn the corner and make defenders miss in space.
- Good route running. Scott has the potential to be a really good route runner, and as he already plays with great athleticism moving in and out of his routes. He plays with good speed, and is able to maintain good body control in and out of his cuts at the stem of his route. He lacks some salesmanship and footwork, but based off where he is at in his learning of the position, he has some really high upside.
Weaknesses:
- Adequate footwork. Right now, Scott lacks the footwork and nuance in his route running to be a sharp cutter at the stem or to sell route fakes to defenders in tight man coverage.
- Marginal size. Scott is limited by size, and I don’t think he is strong enough to withstand some of the taller corners and safetiesi in 50/50 situations in the pros.
- Marginal catch radius. More so than his size, I am worried about Scott’s ability to extend and make leaping grabs or catches outside of his frame. With a smaller stature, he seemingly has a smaller catch radius as well, limiting his ball skills.
Overall Assessment: Tyler Scott is a shifty, twitchy receiver who wins with athletic traits as a deep ball threat downfield. He plays with excellent speed throughout his route, and as a ball carrier leading to a plethora of YAC yards. He is a versatile piece on offense and can use prior running back experience to his advantage as a receiver or runner in the backfield. Scott hasn’t played the receiver position for too long in college, meaning there is still a learning curve, but he will need to improve his footwork and some technical aspects of his route running to be a consistent separator at the next level. I don’t think Scott will be able to make many spectacular catches at the next level due to his catch radius and smaller frame, but he can definitely work around this through certain route trees.
Scheme Fit: Slot receiver that can be a threat out of the backfield as well and can be used with unique play design
